Recently held conferences

On June 3-4, 2005, the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and CEBR jointly organised a workshop on Labour Markets, Fiscal Policy and Structural Reform, held at Dansk Arkitektur Center in Copenhagen. Read more.

 

On June 11-12, 2005, CESifo and CEBR jointly organised a conference on Pension Reform. Read more.

 

On June 16-18, 2005, the Centre for Corporate Governance (CCG) and CEBR jointly organised a conference on Corporate Governance of Closely Held Firms. Read more.

 

The research group "Human Capital, Patenting Activity, and Technology Spillovers" held a two day meeting April 29/30 with project participants from Germany and Spain.

 

Two new major CEBR fundings

Based on a major grant from Tuborgfondet, CEBR launches a new research project on "Future Demand for Educated Labour in Denmark". The project was announced at a ceremony in Copenhagen on March 31, 2005. The financial support from Tuborgfondet amounts to DKK 5.7 mio. Read more.

 

Based on a major grant from the Rockwool Foundation Research Unit, CEBR launches a new research project on "The EU Enlargement and the Danish Labour Market". The financial support from the Rockwool Foundation Research Unit amounts to DKK 3.7 mio. Read more.

 

June 2005

Ph.D. student Steffen Andersen will be visiting Department of Economics, University of Chicago in the academic year of 2005/2006. Steffen Andersen will be visiting and working with Professor John A. List.

 

CEBR launches the project ”Macroeconomic Conditions and the Management of Research and Development in the Nordic Countries” on behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Danish Ministry of Finance. The results of the project are due to arrive late September 2005. Read more.

 

April 2005

Stud. polit. Martin Bøge has joined the CEBR as a Research assistant.

 

March 2005

On March 1, Svend Jespersen, PhD, joined CEBR on a full-time basis to strengthen the centre's policy analysis activities.

 

February

CEBR research assistant Jens Iversen has been admitted to the PhD programme at University of Aarhus by February 1, 2005.

New CEBR Discussion Paper 2005-01

Why are More Redistributive Social Security Systems Smaller? A Median Voter Approach by Marko Köthenbürger, Panu Poutvaara and Paola Profeta has been added to the CEBR publications.

 

The paper "The Family Behind the Family Firm: Evidence from Successions in Danish Firms" authored by CEBR researchers Morten Bennedsen, Kasper Meisner Nielsen and Daniel Wolfenzon was presented at the American Finance Association's 2005 Meeting in Philadelphia on Jan 7, 2005.
 
The paper ""Why is the Public Sector More Labor-Intensive? A Distortionary Tax Argument," authored by CEBR researchers Panu Poutvaara and Andreas Wagener, was presented at the Econometric Society Winter Meeting 2005 in Philadelphia also on Jan 7, 2005.

 

December 2004

Research assistant Marie Ebbensgaard has joined CEBR.

 

Research director Morten Bennedsen was awarded a prestigious price from Reinholdt W. Jorck and Wife's foundation on Dec. 13, 2004. The price of DKK 150,000 and a glass sculpture were given for outstanding research and was presented by the the president of the Supreme Court.  

 

October, 2004

On October 10th-11th, the Centre for Economic and Business Research hosted an international workshop on Entrepreneurship. Read more.

 

CEBR Ph.D. student Bertel Schjerning was on the winning team from the University of Copenhagen when the European Championships in Econometrics were held in Amsterdam on October 8th.  

 

June, 2004

Research Fellow Panu Poutvaara has been invited to join IZA network as Research Fellow. The Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) is a private, independent research institute in Bonn, which conducts nationally and internationally oriented labor market research. IZA cooperates closely with the Economics Department at the University of Bonn.

 

February, 2004

Ph. D. students, Cédric Schneider and Ole Jørgensen, have joined CEBR. Research assistant Mads Børlum has joined CEBR.   

 

March, 2004

Research assistant Søren Mejlby Johansen has joined CEBR.

 

January, 2004

Two CEBR research projects have received funding from the Danish Social Science Research Council. The project on "Fiscal Regimes, Human Capital Formation, and Structural Reforms in the European Union", coordinated by Svend E. Hougaard Jensen and Panu Poutvaara, has been awarded DKK 3.0 mio, and the project on "Human Capital, Patenting Activity, and Technology Spillovers", coordinated by Ulrich Kaiser and Thomas Rønde, has received a grant of DKK 2.3 mio. Both projects run over a period of three years.
